Reflection On ‘Dry/Clean Eating’ January

Well, I made it to the end of my dry / clean eating month!  Overall, I am found it pretty easy. It was just boring!  Between my husband and I committing to a very clean eating month and a no drinking month it became challenging to find date ideas.  Yes, maybe it is a little sad that it would be a challenge, but a nice evening out for a nibble and a drink breaks up the week a bit.  Sure we can go out and have iced tea or club soda, but when you mix in a very clean eating regime it makes it hard to eat out and maintain your calories and macros.  We did have a lovely date day last Saturday which included looking at a boat (yes we have the urge to upgrade our boat – that is a whole topic of it’s own), some shopping for travel clothes for our upcoming Mexico trip (again a post of it’s own) and some great coffee at a small local shop with a passion for handcrafted coffee.  It is possible to have fun, it just takes a bit more thought.  I will say the money savings of a dry and clean eating month have been significant.  Combining not buying alcohol with not eating out = $$$$ savings.  So that is a plus.

Looking back on the month I feel a lot of good came out of it, changing habits and creating new ones. I feel like I hit a reset button on my overall health. I feel less bloated from not drinking and eating better, I REALLY derailed over the holidays and recovering from surgery and the month reset was needed and helpful. I won’t lie I was hoping for a bit more impressive weight loss from this, and that did not happen. But on the positive side, I started eating better again, drank less, got back in the gym and my husband and I enjoyed embracing this together.

My take away… I will continue a lot of new habits I created, but I will embrace a bit more balance of 80/20. Following extreme healthy eating and less drinking 80% of the time but allow grace 20% of the time and feel this will be much more attainable.
